LAN Network Setup: The Right Way To Do It

LAN network setup (Local area network setup) allows you to attach multiple devices like computers, laptops, printers and mobiles with just one internet service provider to share the files and  communicate with each other. You can install the LAN wherever you need to connect multiple devices locally, e.g. in the house or in the office Etc. We are going to tell you the right way to do it.

It is not much complicated task, but you need to plan it well for best execution. Otherwise, this simple network can become a mess for you within few moments. So, pay attention to all our guidelines. The main components of a LAN network are the server, ethernet wires, router and multiple devices connected to the router.

It is not much complicated task, but you need to plan it well for best execution. Otherwise, this simple network can become a mess for you within a few moments. So, pay attention to all our guidelines. The main components of a LAN network are the server, ethernet wires, router and multiple devices connected to the router.

LAN network Setup – Right way to do it:

1. Planning
You should note down all the devices you need to connect to this local network. List down all your PCs, laptops, printers and mobile devices.

2. Making a server
You should spot one high-performance PC or laptop for the server. This server will be directly connected to the internet service provider. Further, this server will directly share your printers or disks. It should have enough storage to have a huge amount of data every time.

3. Building a Router
You should have an access point or router through which all the devices are connected with each other. We recommend the wired cable router which is much popular and simpler. You can simply connect all devices to this router with the Ethernet cables. You need to figure out the proper network shape or topology to connect all devices with one router and multiple wires. If you want more flexibility, you can also use a router having a wireless option as well. However, the wired network’s performance is better than the wireless network.

4. Assigning IPs to devices
All the devices should have assigned a unique IP by the server. Nowadays, most cable routers are DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Server. It means they can dynamically assign the unique address to each new device. If your cable router does not have enough ports to connect all the devices, we recommend you to buy a switch as well. You should be well aware that all network devices are assigned a special IP address by the router. So, make sure to use a router having enough addresses for all the devices including printers and devices.

5. Connecting all wires
Connect all the devices with cable router using Ethernet wires. Attach a switch to the cable router as well with Ethernet crossover cables. Then you can attach more devices to this switch as well.

6. Testing
The last step is the testing of the LAN network setup. You should check all the devices’ internet availability, including printers, disks and switches. After checking the internet, you should share some files on the server and then try to access those files from each individual device. You should test all the printers by printing some shared server files as well.

Why Does Your Business Need Proper LAN Network Setup?
If you want to run your business smoothly and you want to expand it along with better management, you have to build a lan network setup in your office. It allows you to connect all the relevant computers and devices over a single line combining the workpower of several computers and devices. Employees can easily share and manage each other’s data over a network and there is less hustle of managing the duplicate and redundant data as everything is available to anyone at one single place. That’s why, if you intend to make your business flourish, your business does need a proper LAN setup.

The Benefits of a LAN Network Setup

There are 5 top benefits of LAN network setup:
Centralized Data
Better Management
Secured Setup
More Productivity
Remote Access
Centralized Data
The centralized data over a single network leads to a better and efficient task management for the whole team. Everyone can see the work in progress and the quality of the data in a timely manner and everyone can share its personal computer’s resources to the whole team in case of any problem.

Better Management
The network provider and all stakeholders can communicate over a single network. Therefore, it assures a better management, better scheduling and better troubleshooting.

Secured LAN Network Setup
A LAN is a secured network where only inhouse computers are attached with each other. No external resources or hackers can interrupt any data communications. There is a single server and single network line who provides a private secured route for data communications between all devices.

More Productivity
A fast communication, real time check & balance and the real time troubleshooting are just a few of the prospects that assures you a more productivity with a LAN network.

Remote Access
The remote access of physical components like printers and computers are just so handful for the larger businesses like E-commerce. For example, an employee of an E-commerce store can print the receipts of ongoing orders while sitting at its place. It saves several hours per week and we can even schedule the printing needs too.

Therefore, you must have to think about setting up a LAN network in your office to help your business growth. If you are still confused about how to do all the things and you don’t know about particular things which are actually needed for a specific LAN setup for your business, you must hire a professional team who has a lot of experience in building several LAN networks for every kind of businesses- from microbusinesses to the larger ones. There are also several professional companies, like Genesistech, in Malaysia who provide the best computer and networking solutions to everyone.
